Why get a face-down massage while pregnant?

There are many benefits to getting massage during your pregnancy. Massage helps to lower blood pressure, which is one of the main issues that pregnancy can cause. Prenatal massage also lowers stress hormones like cortisol and adrenaline and raises the body’s “feel good” hormones like serotonin and dopamine. Lymphatic massage reduces swelling caused by pregnancy. Sciatic nerve runs under your uterus to your legs, so relieving tight muscles around the area can relieve that nerve pain associated with pregnancy.

Lying on your back after 20 weeks pregnant can cause complications as it cuts off circulation to the blood vessels that feed your baby. Some people find that side-lying massages feel awkward because of the way the sheets are draped and require additional pillows needed for holding. Side-lying can also cause hip and shoulder pain.

Being able to lay face down in the Earthlite pregnancy pillow during a massage can be a huge relief to the shoulders and low back. The pillow has cutouts for the face, breasts, and belly to allow plenty of room for those areas while providing support around them allowing for optimal comfort. It also allows your therapist to access the full back so you can receive a massage just like when you weren’t pregnant with the acceptation of a few modifications.

Establishing a connection with your body and baby through massage improves mental health and bonding. Massage provides an environment that makes it easier to check in with your own body. It’s important to be connected to your body before going into labor. Do ask your doctor if face down prenatal massages with the Earthlite pregnancy pillow is right for you to make sure there aren’t any special complications to your unique pregnancy.
